Do your sales budgeting and forecasting directly in Qlik Sense

The end of Excel files

You probably know the situation all to well. Your Qlik Sense app is setup perfectly to provide insights about your sales performance and forecasts. However, every time you need to adjust any parts of your forecasts there is no way around the tedious process that could look something like this:

1. Export your sales data from Qlik into Excel
2. Copy the latest sales data into your budgeting and forecasting Excel file
3. Adjust your forecasts and budgets in the Excel file
4. Load the updated Excel file back into your Qlik app
5. ...Quite a while later you are now able to visualize and present your updated budget

The good news is that this process can be reduced a lot. The reason is that with Komment™ you can do your budget and forecast adjustments directly in your Qlik Sense application. Due to the great flexibility of Komment™ there will be many different ways to implement budgeting and forecasting in your Qlik Sense apps. But read on to see one example of how it can be done.

Adjustments on the fly

As you will quickly spot, the data used in our example below are not real. However, the use case is very real and it is used by one of our clients. Let us start by outlining the situation and the client requirements:

• Historical sales data is loaded into Qlik Sense from a source system
• Expected sales growth for the coming period is also loaded into the app (could also work without this data)
• Users should be able to change the expected growth rate for each Account number in the sales data
• Users should also be able to provide a manual entered sales budget for the coming period
• The manually entered value should overrule any loaded or entered growth rates
• All relevant Qlik charts and tables should be updated on the fly when budget numbers are changed by the user

So, that should be easy enough to do, right? Yes, with Komment™ it is actually quite easy to do.

Okay - it is time to show you how it works. Below is a short video showing how a user can change the budgets using both the expected growth rates or enter manual values.

As you can see the changed budget and forecast assumptions are immediately impacted the rest of the Qlik Sense data model. This means that you can use the entered or changed data in all the objects in your Qlik Sense app.

Something for all use cases and user types

The above example is naturally only one way of doing your budgeting and forecasting directly in Qlik Sense. When you use Komment™ you are not locked into a specific framework or functionality. You can use it in many different ways and adjust it to fit your purpose - just like you can with Qlik Sense!

And lastly it is important to remember that Komment™ works on all editions of Qlik Sense. Even of Qlik Sense SaaS editions. Further, it also works for all user types.
